Kathryn Conover
A little write up? Hmmmm... I've been entertaining for 17 years, most of that time spent in the Mid West and East Coast, but have toured the US, entertaining in every major city in America, parts of Canada and Mexico City. I have two state titles, but don't put a lot of emphisis on that because it is your ability to make yourself appeal to your audience over the years that makes you an outstanding entertainer, not the number of titles you have or their prestige. Some of my proud moments are: In 1987 we worked ourselves to death to open Atlantic City's only AIDS hospice, long before the government acknowledged us, and we managed to keep it going until the state took it over in 1991. In Tulsa I worked with a group of entertainers that did shows all over town every weekend to benefit Our House, a welcome place for PWA's to have a good meal, get a change of clothes if they needed it, work in the garden, or just hang out. I now live in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and produce benefit shows for Children with AIDS and we do shows in various venues-both gay and straight all along the SE coastline of the State. One of the things I like about the shows is the age group is highly mixed. So in one week, I may be working on a cool dance number, while remembering my old Marlene Dietrich routine to play at the dinner theatre for the older fags. "Hewwo boys. I've gained a wittle weight, but I haven't been out of my Pawis apartment for 20 yeaws". It's fun to be attached to both the older gay men as well as the 18+ group when we do the dances for them througout the year. The younger ones don't understand how I can embrace the older ones, but youth often finds aging abhorant and refuses to understand.
